CAMPAIGN E-NEWSLETTER: WEEK 2

Whether you work with 5 people or 500, the success of your United Way campaign depends on how successfully you inspire your co-workers to give. The best way to make an inspirational appeal in your workplace is to hold campaign meetings that REALLY WORK!

How?

1. Make people comfortable. A friendly greeting at the door, a little food and drink, good acoustics, comfortable seating and good lighting, and a warm thanks-for-coming on the way out all add up to a pleasant experience. And keeping the groups to a manageable size makes the meeting feel more personal and important.
2. Put on a first-rate presentation. It’s as easy as A, B, C: A) Set the stage with a warm welcome from you, your CEO, or a member of your team (and don’t forget to include a Union representative if organized labor is part of your workplace). B) Touch their hearts with one of this year’s new videos - they have been getting great reviews and you can choose the one that best fits your employees' interests. C) Bring it home by including an agency speaker who can vividly convey the needs of the community—and the value of a gift to United Way. Learn all about Speakers Bureau. And don’t hesitate to have some fun—good will is contagious
3. Treat your employees like valued customers. Those little ‘quality touches’ count. Send out timely invitations to the meeting and reminders the day before. Personalize the pledge cards and have them ready to distribute at the meeting. After the presentation, give people time to ask questions and make sure someone from United Way is on hand in case you’re asked something you can’t answer. And say thanks as often as you can. Studies show it takes being thanked four times before people feel thanked!

We know that no two workplaces are exactly the same, and we’ve seen great campaigns that put a very different spin on these basic principles. The one quality that all great campaigns share is genuine enthusiasm. If you’re feeling stressed by the task of running your campaign, call your account manager right away. We’ll help you in every way we can.
