The crowd waited with excited anticipation to see Anheuser-Busch’s Steve McCormick turn from Lodi Street onto James Street. When the flashing lights from McCormick’s police escort were spotted, the crowd converged at the finish line to welcome him in.

His arrival marked the climax of United Way’s Walk the Talk event, which brought together leaders from business, government and non-profits in a public show support for their community.

Mr. McCormick started his journey at the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Baldwinsville and made the 13-mile run in about two hours. He was joined during the trip by Doug Luke, representative of Teamsters Local 1139, and together they crossed the finish line with a check made out to United Way in the amount of $120,049.

After taking just a few seconds to catch his breath, Mr. McCormick thanked the assembly and announced United Way’s mid-campaign total of $5,676,627. This amount is well ahead of the pace of last year’s campaign, but United Way still needs to raise $3,823,473 to reach its goal of $9.5 million.

Next week we will bring you photos and details of the inventive good spirit that was brought to this event by over 50 leading executives and their teams.

Many thanks to everyone who helped make Walk the Talk a success—and a special thanks to Steve McCormick, who inspired everyone with his contagious enthusiasm, leadership and athletic ability. We’re already talking about ways to make next year’s event even better.

From everyone at United Way, we wish you a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday!
