We are frequently asked, how much should I give? The answer is different for each person. As a general guide, reliable sources have reported that the “average American giver” donates approximately 3.2% of their before-tax income to charity (this average is for total annual giving to all charities).

United Way of Central New York has two Leadership Giving Programs that recognize generous individuals and couples who make an annual gift of $1,000 or more to the community through United Way. The societies are: the Alexis de Tocqueville Society for annual gifts of $10,000 or more, and the Hamilton White Society for annual gifts of $1,000 - $9,999. Over 1,200 individuals and couples are members of our Leadership Societies. Here you can also learn about combined giving, gifts of stock or securities, as well as planned giving.

This is a recognition category for donors who give between $500 and $999 to the annual United Way campaign.
