Spirit of Caring Organized Labor Participation Award

Winner: IBEW Local 97

This award is given to labor organizations that show civic leadership, participate in volunteer activities, and support the United Way campaign. The brothers and sisters of IBEW Local 97 kept busy in 2007 with blood, food and clothing drives and other charitable efforts.

This award honors organizations that have given the gift of their expertise. EMA employees donate hundreds of hours of work each year helping local non-profits develop strategic plans and new marketing efforts.

Spirit of Caring Gifts-In-Kind Award

Winner: Bristol-Myers Squibb Company

This award recognizes organizations that are especially generous with gifts of material goods, such as used equipment and company resources. Last year, Bristol-Myers Squibb closed an in-house store that offered over-the-counter medications and toiletries to employees. The company donated the leftover stock to United Way—the single most valuable in-kind donation United Way has ever received.

Spirit of Caring Volunteer Service Award

Winner: Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC

This award recognizes the importance of volunteering in the community. Bond, Schoeneck & King recently teamed up with United Way’s Volunteer Center to tailor a new volunteer service program to their employees. The firm’s employees now spend an hour each week reading to second- and third-graders at Elmwood School in Syracuse.

Winner: Hand Held Products, Inc.

This award recognizes the importance in inspiring people to give according to their means, recognizing companies that strive to encourage Leadership Giving (gifts of $1,000 and more per year). Hand Held Products encouraged new donors at this level by creating an exclusive event and holding a separate campaign for Leadership donors within their United Way campaign.

This award recognizes companies that run great United Way campaigns. All three of the CPA firms have been great United Way supporters, but their campaign has grown by leaps and bounds ever since they came up with the unique idea of running all three of their campaigns together as a team.
