Board and Volunteers

United Way is led by a diverse group of volunteers including business executives, professionals, non-profit leaders, and members of organized labor. We thank them for their support and leadership.

 

  BOARD OF DIRECTORS

United Way’s Board of Directors governs the organization and makes all important policy and funding decisions. Governance extends through cabinets and committees that oversee each functional area of United Way and report to the board through their respective vice chairs.

  COMMUNITY IMPACT CABINET

The Community Impact Cabinet informs the Board about the  investing of donor gifts to have the greatest impact in our community. This cabinet provides the board with information about current community conditions and recommendations about which programs to fund.  This cabinet also monitors funded agencies and programs to ensure that donor gifts are being used efficiently, effectively and responsibly.

  RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT CABINET

The Resource Development Cabinet is responsible for the oversight of United Way’s annual workplace fundraising campaign and our efforts to develop and maintain relationships with local businesses, non-profits, and governments.

  FINANCE AND AUDIT COMMITTEE    

Chaired by the Secretary/Treasurer, the Finance and Audit Committee provides oversight of the financial operations of the organization. This committee reviews detailed monthly operating statements, prepares recommendations for the annual budget, reviews the annual audit, provides summary reports to the Board at every meeting, and prepares recommendations for any changes to the organization’s fiscal policies as appropriate.

  HUMAN RESOURCES COMMITTEE

The Human Resources Committee is charged with maintaining a responsible workplace environment and reviews and recommends workplace policies and procedures.

  LEADERSHIP GIVING CABINET

The Leadership Giving Cabinet develops and implements strategies to encourage annual individual giving, major gifts and planned giving. This cabinet also provides leadership and support to our recognition societies: the Hamilton White Society, Alexis de Tocqueville Society, 500 Club and Diamond Donors.

  INVESTMENT COMMITTEE

The Investment Committee is responsible for developing investment strategy recommendations including goals, policies and procedures to meet the organization’s long-term goals and financial needs. The committee also provides ongoing oversight of investment performance.

  MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS CABINET

The Marketing and Communcations Cabinet is responsible for the organization’s efforts to communicate with our donors and the community, and for the public promotion of the organization and its activities. This cabinet provides oversight of the organization’s marketing efforts, online and e-communications, special events, and public relations activities.

  VOLUNTEER RESOURCES CABINET

The Volunteer Resources Cabinet is charged to inspire and mobilize our community into organized volunteer service. This cabinet oversees the organization’s efforts to engage individuals and companies in long- and short-term volunteer activities and to coordinate the mobilization of these volunteers with the non-profits that provide volunteer opportunities. This cabinet also oversees our Gifts-In-Kind program that finds connects companies with usable goods and products with non-profits that can use these items to enhance their work.

  SUCCESS BY 6 POLICY COUNCIL

The Policy Council is comprised of business, government, non-profit and community leaders from across Onondaga County. The council provides leadership for United Way’s Success By 6 initiative that seeks to promote the intellectual, physical, and emotional development of young children.
