Bob Frateschi is no stranger to heavy lifting. After three decades of delivering packages, he says he feels right at home. “In my short time on the job, I’ve already reconnected with a number of people who I got to know quite well during my time as a delivery driver,” he said. “I’ve met a lot of great people but it’s also been great to reconnect with so many old friends.”

United Way’s Gifts-In-Kind program collects about $500,000 in donated goods annually from retailers like Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, and Bed, Bath and Beyond --goods that may be cosmetically damaged but usable. Bob distributes the goods to 70 nonprofits in Central New York.

Gifts-in-Kind

Donations of material goods or professional services are called “gifts in kind.” These contributions are very valuable to non-profits, helping them stretch their budgets and better serve their clients. Our Gifts-in-Kind program is the community’s in-kind connection center. We help businesses find new uses for unwanted equipment and inventory, and help agencies find the items they need to do their work.

We are also the regional partner of Gifts In Kind International, a non-profit organization that works in communities around the globe, linking charities to in-kind donations from a wide variety of sources.
