Keller Williams' cleanup at Highland Park

One Square Yard Sweepstakes

Grand Prize Winners – Paul and Cheryl Parsons
Paul and Cheryl weren’t afraid to get their hands dirty. They planted nearly 100 petunias at Clay Historical Park, in each of two flowerbeds that were in need of some TLC. Cheryl is president of the Clay Historical Association and the park is just a couple of miles from the Parsons’ home, so it seemed like a logical place to start.

“Nobody wanted to maintain it,” Paul said. “It’s kind of the entrance to the park. It’s a shame.”

Goike Greenhouses in Clay donated the flowers - four flats of them - to help add color to the park. And Paul added another touch of his own: he hung a new flag from the empty flagpole between the two flowerbeds. For them, it was all in a day’s work.

“It’s just something I enjoy doing,” Paul said.

  MOST SQUARE YARDS CLEANED:

Students of Jamesville-DeWitt High School
Five students from Jamesville-DeWitt High School – Shannon Flannagan, Dylan Taylor, Daniel Netter, Gordie Gehring and Michael Fiacco – spent hours cleaning up three fishing access points in Jamesville along Butternut Creek. Items removed included tires, broken windshields, discarded fishing tackle, and a broken bathroom countertop.

  BIGGEST TEAM EFFORT:

Keller Williams Realty
A team of realtors and support staff from Keller Williams Realty spent a morning picking up trash in Syracuse’s Highland Park. Volunteer service is something Keller Williams staff take seriously, according to Team Leader Joe Nastri. “If we can do our part to make Central New York look better, it helps us do our jobs,” he said. “Serving our community is something that we care about.”

  MOST DRAMATIC RESULT:

Michelle Nastri
Michelle cleaned a particularly dirty spot n Highland Park. A small space near the base of a tree and some surrounding bushes had accumulated enough trash and debris to fill a garbage bag.

  MOST DRAMATIC RUNNER UP:
Nick Buechler
Nick cleaned up trash at McGroarty Park on North McBride Street.
