The lucky 2009 Step Up Challenge Grand Prize Winners will be chosen on Thursday December 31st and winners will be chosen by the prize sponsors.* Winners will also be notified using the contact information they provided when they entered the sweepstakes.
*Please note: The printed rules for the Step Up Challenge incorrectly state that winners must be present to win. The rules are hereby modified to eliminate this requirement and substitute the process outlined above.
Sweepstakes will commence on August 15, 2009 and conclude on December 31, 2009.
The sweepstakes will include 75 daily prize drawings and 5 grand prize drawings. The random drawings will be supervised by United Way of Central New York, Inc. officials or their assigned representatives whose decisions are final with respect to all matters related to this sweepstakes.
All Step Up Challenge entrants will be eligible for Daily Prizes. These prizes will be awarded by random drawings of all processed entries. Drawings will be conducted daily, Monday through Friday, beginning Monday September 14, 2009 and ending Thursday December 31, 2009. Daily prize drawings will be suspended for holidays on November 11, 26 and 27 and December 25 2009. All entries received prior to 4 p.m. each Wednesday will be processed for inclusion in the daily drawings beginning the following Monday and continuing for drawings until the end of the sweepstakes. Winners will be publicly announced on the day of the drawing.
Entrants will choose a single grand prize contest to enter. Three finalists for each grand prize will be selected on December 31, 2009. The three finalists for each grand prize will proceed to the grand prize drawings to be conducted on Thursday, December 31, 2009. Finalists must be present to win. Entrants who win a daily prize will be removed from subsequent daily prize drawings, but will continue to be eligible for the grand prize contest they select. Each grand prize will have a separate drawing from among the entrants of those who chose that prize. To be entered in the grand prize sweepstakes, entry forms must be received by 4:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at United Way of Central New York’s offices at 518 James Street, P.O. Box 2129, Syracuse, NY 13220. Winners will be publicly announced by Thursday, December 31, 2009. United Way of Central New York, Inc. and other contest sweepstakes sponsors are not responsible for lost, late or misdirected mail or entries not forwarded to United Way in time to be eligible for any drawing.
Winners will be notified in person or by phone or by registered mail. In the event that United Way of Central New York, Inc. is unable to contact a potential winner despite reasonable efforts to do so, an alternative winner will be chosen. In the event that the winner is not qualified to accept the grand prize, an alternate will be chosen.
The odds of winning will be based upon the number of valid entries received.
Those who accept the Step Up Challenge to increase their annual gift to United Way by $1 per week ($52 per year), or begin giving to United Way at this level, and return their pledge card to United Way will automatically be entered to win. No donation necessary to enter or win. A donation will not increase the chances of winning. An alternative entry form will be available during the sweepstakes on United Way’s website, www.unitedway-cny.org, or by sending a self -addressed stamped envelope to: United Way Step Up Challenge, United Way of Central New York, P.O. Box 2129, Syracuse, NY 13220.
In addition to the Step Up Giveaways we will be awarding Loyal Donor giveaways, this contest will consist of entrants who either increase their donation by any amount or remain the same as last year. Twenty $50 Gas Cards will be awarded in a special drawing at the close of the sweepstakes on Thursday December 31. To be eligible, United Way must have your donor history and contact information.
All entrants must meet and/or agree to comply with the following qualifications to receive a prize:
- Winners must sign a Waiver and Release Form granting permission for United Way of Central New York to use the winner’s name and/or likeness for the purposes of advertising, promotion and trade in connection with United Way of Central New York without further compensation to the winner; and releasing United Way and participating corporations, their franchises, subsidiaries, suppliers, advertisers and promotion agencies, employees and agents from any and all liability arising out of participation in this sweepstakes.
- Winners must provide their social security number, and claim their prize within ten (10) days of notification.
- Entrants must be at least 18 years of age on or before September 1, 2009. Winners must provide proof of age.
- Entrants must have their principal residence or their principal place of employment in areas served by United Way of Central New York’s annual Community Campaign.
Limit one entry per person. Sweepstakes void where prohibited or restricted by law. Illegible entries will be disqualified. Employees of United Way of Central New York, Inc. and their immediate families and other household members are not eligible.
Prizes cannot be transferred, exchanged or redeemed for cash or other merchandise. Prizes are subject to, and winners are responsible for, all applicable federal, state and local taxes (IRS form 1099). United Way of Central New York is not responsible for gift certificates rendered invalid due to a bankruptcy or closing of a daily prize sponsor business.
Winner’s names will be posted on United Way of Central New York’s website, www.unitedway-cny.org, and a full list of winners will be available after January 1st, 2010 and may be viewed on our website, www.unitedway-cny.org or obtained by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to United Way Step Up Challenge, United Way of Central New York, P.O. Box 2129, Syracuse, NY 13220. All communications with respect to the sweepstakes should be directed to the foregoing address.
