Twelfth annual Book Drive to be held February 27 through March 15
United Way of Central New York Success By 6 will hold its 12th Annual “Bring on the Books!” Book Drive February 27 through March 15. This community-wide book collection will provide new and gently used books to local child care providers, after-school programs and other organizations in need of children’s books as part of Success By 6’s efforts to promote reading and literacy.
“Bring on the Books!” will kickoff at the Syracuse University men’s basketball game against Villanova on Saturday, February 27. SU Literacy Corps volunteers will help to collect books and monetary donations at The Carrier Dome from 7:30 p.m. until tip-off at 9 p.m.
Success By 6 encourages everyone to support children’s literacy through book donations for the drive. The following community drop-off locations will be collecting books starting on Monday, March 1:
- Alliance Bank (all Onondaga County branches)
- The Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce (572 S, Salina St., Syracuse)
- Time Warner Cable offices (500 S. Salina St., Syracuse; and 6005 Fair Lakes Road, East Syracuse)
- The Post-Standard (1 s. Clinton St., Syracuse)
- United Way of Central New York (518 James St., Syracuse)
- NewsChannel 9 WSYR-TV (5904 Bridge St., East Syracuse)
“Bring on the Books” is held every winter and books are collected at more than 80 business locations. Last year, the book drive gathered more than 12,000 books and distributed them to more than 75 sites working with children throughout Onondaga County including Head Start, Pre-K and child care programs. Additionally, Child Care Solutions also assists us in distributing books to home child care providers throughout Central New York. With help from the community, this year Success By 6 hopes to collect and distribute even more books.
